That Awkward Moment When You...

...realise you're no longer a hip, savvy Londoner!

I arrived in London at 4.45am yesterday and had some trouble topping up my oyster card (bus pass for my non-Londoners), so I decided to just get the bus and pay with cash as it was really early and the bus stop was deserted. Imagine my surprise when I was informed that "cash is no longer valid tender on TFL buses." So flustered was I, that I launched into French with the driver who looked at me weirdly and motioned for me to get on, for free. Apparently they changed the system about 5 months ago...thank God for kind drivers sha.

  3. I know how you feel. The same thing happened to me when I went to New York City. Apparently buses in the Bronx no longer take coins or metro card. You have to swipe and get a receipt to show the controllers when they get on (if they get on) like in Germany. Hyped but had to ride black "schwarzfahrer" a couple of times to get used to that system again.

I felt like a tourist in my own city!

    1. So annoying I tell you. To think I used to be so proud of being a Londoner (even though I actually come from Kent). Oh well, go to accept the fact that I'm a small town Brussels girl now :(

  4. This happened to me as well lol but mine was a super rainy cold, horrid day. The driver wanted to send me off but I hustled my way on the bus by force, asked every question possible until I payed by card. Luckily I had my card thank god.
